Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith proposed to tax on income earned from Facebook, Google and YouTube through social media
The proposal was made in the 2018-19 fiscal year budget presented in the parliament on Thursday.
The finance minister is watching the risk of tax avoidance as the country's economy is much open today
In the budget proposal, he said, "Many foreign organizations earn huge earnings through virtual and digital transactions, but we do not get much tax from them.
"Since the issue of virtual and digital transactions is relatively new, we have not had enough provisions to bring these transactions under tax.
The Finance Minister said, "I propose to add necessary legal provisions in the light of international good practice for taxation on virtual and digital sectors such as Facebook, Google, YouTube etc earned in Bangladesh.
